Rescue on Broad Peak
Jul 12, 2004 09: 03 EST
French
members of the Field Touring Alpine Broad Peak expedition, Fabien Anslemet
and Yannick Faure, developed severe HACE while above C2 and are off the mountain
early this morning. They were flown down to Skardu by a military rescue helicoper
that had been arranged and was waiting to meet them.
Yannick's condition is OK, the flight medic advised the ground staff
that Fabien regained some ability to talk once the helicopter passed under
4000m (near Paiju). There is no further information except that both Yannick
and Fabien are now in a clinic in Skardu and Fabien is receiving treatment.
We understand he is now out of imminent danger.
The rescue party, including team leader Jamie McGuiness had been moving
for over 30 hours and got Fabien down to BC by early this morning. The team
made a final descent throughout last night down the slopes below Camp 1.
