The return trekWhat a mission We put in hard days trekking only to be mucked around in Skardu 29 July - trek to Goro IIWe woke to snow falling, what a day to have only a couple of hours to pack up.
By the time we finished packing the snow had stopped We were leaving Mike behind at Camp 3, he was hoping summit today however he (plus the Dutch) didn't make a summit attempt, the weather was terrible, instead they descended and the last radio call was from him at Camp 2.5, then we were out of range. Steve and Tineke were waiting in Concordia, their Field Touring Alpine GII team almost all gone already, and the two leaders (Sue and Ian) still coming down, so they joined us for the walk out. (And yes, despite rumours, Steve and T are in perfect health, if not perfect humour.) We are not so sure of the health of Sue and Ian though. Initially there were rumours, but it seems that they must be OK as they are walking out.
Denis: there are plenty of small crevasses on the trail between Concordia and Paiyu. |

Concordia; yep, it was a gloomy, rainy day. |

30 July - trek to PaiyuOne of the longest days trekking, for us around 12 hours; Amanda arrived at 2am with a sore knee (since recovered). 31 July - trek to KorophonAfter yesterday, this was much shorter, but after yesterdays literal marathon, it was still a tough day.
Olivier rests his tired feet - there were plenty of sore feet. 1 August - trek Askhole and drive SkarduATP - "Any Torture Provided". Jeeps booked? Yep, were they there? No. Hotel, no. We didn't connect with our luggage until the afternoon after. Not happy. |

the beardies, except the Pakistanis (unknown, and with the scarf our top porter leader)
Now clean! What is left of the team in Skardu, with the kitchen
crew and the personal high altitude porters. |
