Broad Peak Summited
Jul 9, 2004 09: 51 EST
It
has been confirmed this morning that Chad Kellogg, Rory Stark, and Alfred
Schreilechner have reached the summit of Broad Peak. This is the first 8,000+
meter mountain for the climbers. Our man in Pakistan is checking out the
details on the alleged other summiteers.
On an Expedition to Mt. Kenya in the year 2000 Alfred discovered his
love to traveling and climbing big mountains. Since then he has been intensifying
his mountaineering activities and took part in several Expeditions. After
climbing Aconcagua and Cerro Ameghino solo, he returned to Africa for Mt.
Kenya and Kilimanjaro. In 2002 he summited his first 7000er, Muztagata in
China. On Kongur Tagh the Team had to turn around at 7000m. The absolute
highlight of his career up to now was a try on K2, where the Expedition
got as far as 7400m, above the black pyramid.
Chad Kellogg is a native of Washington State. He has climbed Ama Dablam,
Aconcagua, Denali, and won the speed climb on Khan Tengri in 2003. Currently
he is on an expedition to Pakistan; Broad Peak and K2 double header. Longer-range
goals include speed ascents on 8,000-meter peaks and alpine style first ascents.
