Summit bids are in line for this week. But will the weather cooperate? Impatience to get to the top, may be a factor here - as forecasts are not showing good weather to say the least. However, with the erratic behavior of wind and precip on K2, taking a gamble and heading up tomorrow might not be a bad idea; wind may drop down just a couple of meters per second and skies may clear up above 7500 after Thursday. On Gasherbrum and Broad look for teams attempting the summit late this week, on K2 summit bids for the weekend.

Weather:

Latest satellite imagery shows a large band of clouds throughout Northern India and K2. The instability and showers will continue today with increased chances of high clouds/snow throughout the mountain. There is a chance for snow below 7500m tomorrow with better chances of snow at higher elevations on Thursday afternoon/evening. By the weekend the winds are forecasted to shift from a SW'erly direction to a more westerly direction which may help to decrease the frequency of showers. The winds for most of the period look to be moderate (5-10 m/s below 7500m and 7-15 m/s above 7500m) with a possible increase in winds on Sunday to 12-17 m/s above 7500m.

Broad Peak:

Field Touring Alpine With the latest bad weather the snow conditions higher up should be much better (no wading?) and a finer, stable patch of weather is expected. They will make an attempt as soon as weather forecasts show a decent window.

Dutch From BC on Friday they are looking at Wednesday to climb up to Camp 3. Some of the climbers went up to C1 today.
